Abstract

Background. Topicality of the research is stipulated by extensive application of knowledge as an economic resource in social production under the impact of a significant postindustrial structural shift that occurs in the socioeconomic system. The goal of the study is to analyze the role of knowledge as an economic resource at the stage of postindustrial economic development.
Materials and methods. Implementation of the goal of the study was achieved on the basis of the analysis of changes in the system of economic resources and in the structure of manufacturing costs in the process of postindustrial transformation of the economy and the influence of science on development of the social production. The methodology includes the structural and functional analysis, system analysis and comparative analysis which allow to reveal the process of development of productive resources due to insertion of knowledge therein as an independent component, importance of theoretical knowledge for development of the social production, directions of its application in the manufacturing process.
Results. The authors investigated regularities of productive forces development in the age science and technology, which stipulate the role of knowledge as an economic resource; demonstrated the economic explication of knowledge as a consumer’s benefit (product, good) and an investment benefit (resource); analyzed the contribution of knowledge as an economic resource to manufacturing of economic goods.
Conclusions. The study allows to single out those types of knowledge, being heterogeneous by its content, dedication and forms of display, that acquire value as a resource of production and an object of commercialization; to reveal forms of actualization of knowledge as an economic resource: embodied knowledge, personalized knowledge, codified (formalized) knowledge.
